Price Increase Notification – Mitsubishi Electric UK. From 1st January 2019.

We have been informed by Mitsubishi Electric UK of a price increase which will be implemented from 1st January 2018. These increases are due to the increases in the cost of R410A, we have seen through 2017 & 2018 and the continued impact on material cost rises created by the foreign exchange challenges.

All increases referred to herein will come into effect on the 1st January 2019 and be applied across our product portfolio as follows:

Zero increase: Hybrid VRF, PAR-CT01 controller, RMI controller, Residential Lossnay, GUG Lossnay

• 3% increase: R32 M Series, R32 Mr Slim Power Inverter outdoor units, Lossnay ventilation, Heating Ecodan indoor units, Accessories, Controls, all spare parts

• 5% increase: R410A M Series and Mr Slim indoor and outdoor units, City Multi VRF, E-Series chillers, CAHV/CRHV Heating Ecodan units, Heating Ecodan outdoor units

 The mechanism for the implementation of this price increase will be as follows:

• All orders placed from 1st January 2019 will be invoiced at the new 2019 prices.

• All orders placed before 1st January 2019 and shipped before 1st April 2019 will be invoiced at the current 2018 prices.

• All quotations produced prior to 1st January 2019 will be valid for a period of 30 days. Any quotations that are revised on or after 1st January 2019 will be quoted at the new 2019 prices.

Stephen Taylor Apprentice of the year 2018

Congratulations to Stephen Taylor who was named apprentice of the year at the ACR News awards. The event took place at 155 Bishopgate in London. 

He proudly represented Kooltech and Eastleigh college at the skills show final held at the NEC in Birmingham. Stephen narrowly missed out on the first prize at this event, however this hasn't deterred him from gaining fresh knowledge at every opportunity.

Stephen is a graduate of the apprenticeship scheme and is now in his 4th year with Kooltech. Stephen is an excellent technical support engineer who is always looking to further his education.

"Kooltech offered me this opportunity as soon as I left school three years down the line I've realised this is the best place to learn and get the experience. There's a wide variety of different jobs which keep it interesting going from commissioning systems, stripping condensers and rebuilding them to working on complex electrical panels".

Kooltech contribution to the industry award

Congratulations to David MacQueen, the former owner of MacQueen Air Conditioning, one of the UK’s most influential air conditioning distributors. He was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the Scottish Refrigeration Industry by the members of the IoR Scottish Branch. 

David received the Kooltech Contribution to the Industry Award in front of over 350 guests at the dinner staged at The Crowne Plaza, Glasgow on Thursday 16th November. The award was presented by Murray Sharp, Managing Director of Kooltech and the evening was hosted by television presenter, radio DJ and former Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus.

Stephen Taylor makes SkilFRIDGE Apprentice of the Year Final 2017

Congratulations to our very own Stephen Taylor who has made it to the final of SkillFRIDGE 2017. The SkillFRIDGE Competition has toured the UK searching for the best apprentices and trainees studying up to Level 3 RACHP.

Stephen has been chosen as a finalist after demonstrating his skills as an outstanding trainee HVAC engineer. Performing skills such as brazing; refrigerant recovery; leak detection and documenting all relevant commissioning sheets.

The Final will take place as part of The Skills Show, to be held at the NEC Birmingham from 16-18 November. Good luck to Stephen in the final from everyone at Kooltech.

Kooltech Become Official Partner of Glasgow Warriors

Kooltech have become the latest Partner of Glasgow Warriors, having signed a one-year deal with the club.

Established in 1979 in Hillington, Kooltech is one of the largest independently owned distributors of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning products and has grown significantly with a network of seven branches across the UK.  

Kooltech has also recently announced that it has become an exclusive distributor of Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning equipment.

This unique product is an automatic lowering grille which allows for easy filter maintenance without the need of towers or ladders to gain access to high ceilings. Kooltech Involvement: Kooltech worked closely with the professional team to support this development from the selection of all Mitsubishi Electric condensing units and branch control (BC) boxes to support the heating and cooling infrastructure serving all 900 apartments and supplementary areas. Kooltech’s own K-con range of BC Boxes with both Acoustic Pack treatment and port isolation valves have been utilised to enable phased installation and handover of all relevant areas.

Close liaison was required from the Kooltech, Shell & Core and Fit-Out Project teams to ensure seamless coordination across the diering phases of the project.

18-21 Haymarket, London

CASE STUDY: 18-21 Haymarket. London

June 2016

Project Description: 18-21 Haymarket, is the refurbishment of the existing retail facility to create a modern contemporary shopping experience for consumers at The Dover Street Market.

Client: Dover Street Market

M&E: Scomac Services Ltd

Kooltech Involvement: The installation of Mechanical services was undertaken in a new concept store at Dover Street Market. The installation by Scomac Services Ltd had to be well coordinated due to limited space and constraints of the existing building in order to realise the design team’s vision for the store.

The systems selected were a mixture of Mitsubishi Electric VRF Y Series for the open floor areas and R2 for the smaller areas. To suit the different zones a mixture of Ducted, Cassette and Floor Mounted fan coils were supplied. The cassettes were painted to a specific RAL colour as part of a Kooltech Bespoke Solution to blend into the open ceiling void.

In order to maintain high air quality and utilise the option of free cooling whenever possible, Mitsubishi Lossnay units were incorporated in order to provide the required volume of fresh air. The installation utilised a touch screen centralised controller to ensure the systems operate at optimum temperature and time settings.

CASE STUDY: Edward Boyle Library, Leeds

June 2016

Project Description: Work began in 2015 on a full refurbishment of the Edward Boyle Library, to improve infrastructure (heating, lighting, ventilation), and to allow the development of new facilities. Being a listed building, this project provided many challenges.

Client: Leeds University

Principle Contractor: Galiford Try

Kooltech Involvement: Kooltech originally started the scheme with the appointed client’s consultant, Ramboll Leeds; assisting them with the airconditioning design. Acrol chose Kooltech due to being one of the leading suppliers of Mitsubishi air conditioning equipment in the UK. They needed assurances that Kooltech could deliver the project within the given timescales and if required, had a back-up service at hand. The site had a strict delivery booking system which Kooltech worked around by offering timed deliveries. This made the logistics of the project work very well.

Bespoke KS8 BC controllers with isolation valves were used on the project offering the client full system flexibility for future alterations/expansion to the building layout whilst minimising disruption to the air conditioning.

Building 3000 Portsmouth

CASE STUDY: Building 3000 Lakeside, North Harbour, Portsmouth

June 2016

Project Description: Building 3000 Lakeside, North Harbour, Portsmouth was constructed in the early 1980’s as part of a major development for IBM. Over the past 5 years the estate has come under major refurbishment to bring the existing oce facilities up to current standards providing multi-tenancy facilities to local/regional businesses.

Client: Bouygues UK. Southern Construction Division

Consulting Engineer: DESCO

Mechanical & Electrical Contractor: Working Environments Ltd

Kooltech Involvement: Kooltech worked closely with Working Environments and the Client’s professional team to provide a solution to cooling the main reception and focal point to the refurbished facility.

The scope was to find a solution within the Client’s budget to provide unobtrusive cooling solution to the first floor mezzanine and atrium area, which will be used for an informal meeting space and thoroughfare for the building.

The existing space consists of high level architectural lattice beam steel-work and curved roof light glazing.

A series of VRF cassette units have been installed to provide cooling to the space. Kooltech provide a unique solution by painting the grille facias and cassette unit bodies in brilliant white to blend in with the existing structure thus providing an unobtrusive solution to the space.

Salisbury House, London

CASE STUDY: Salisbury House, London

June 2016

Project Description: A Cat A fit out of an existing 8 story listed building with a 1.0m raised floor utilised as the service void for ventilation and air conditioning.

M&E: Ductwork Services (I.O.W.) Ltd

Fit-Out Contractors: AOC Interiors Floors 4 and 5. Seal interiors Floor 3

Developer: Slater Michael

Consultant: Peter Deer and Associates

Kooltech Involvement: The project consisted of floor mounted fan coils which were painted (RAL9010 White). The BC controllers were installed in ceiling voids above toilets and the condensing units sited on external gantries on each floor. A number of the condensing units had to be stripped down and rebuilt on site by Kooltech Engineers due to site restrictions for access and delivery.

Each floor operates under the dictates of it’s own centralised controller, with individual controllers provided per floor for multi zone flexibility. The project was over three floors of the 8 storey building whilst the other floors remained operational.

CASE STUDY: Salmon Lake Centre & Ballacregga Cornmill, Isle of Man

Stewart Clague Services Ltd collaborated with Kooltech to create and award winning project.

Award Winning Innovation

SCS Ltd, a specialist building contractor based on the Isle of Man, has used ingenious technologies and methodology to create an award winning project at one of the Island’s leading tourist attractions. The site now benefits from a self-sufficient electric, central heating, air conditioning and hot water system which can all be controlled centrally from a PC or remotely by smart phone or tablet

A Natural Solution

The company originally challenged specialist building contractor SCS Ltd to improve the heating efficiency at the site. SCS Ltd Managing Director, Stewart Clague recollects:

“Initially, we decided we could install a turbine providing free electric to heat the premises but then it occurred to us that we really should be able to heat or cool. We have an open area which is popular for functions such as weddings so would need ventilation and air cooling. We also have an old stone building which requires lots of heating.”

Self-sufficient System

Phase 2 involved the installation of a Mitsubishi PWFY Heat Pump Boiler in the loft as a primary heat source to provide hot water for both sanitary, under floor and central heating requirements. The PWFY operates seamlessly with the WR2 and can achieve constant temperatures up to 70°c. Combining the Heat Pump Boiler with a BC unit and isolation valves provides a multitude of benefits. The primary benefit being the ability to close off individual areas without the need to shut down the complete system which is ideal for maintenance schedules. Also, absorbing rejected heat from the rooms into the PWFY via a cascade system saves energy to heat the boiler whilst avoiding dissipation into the atmosphere.

Discreet Remote Temperature Sensors were commissioned in each room and Mitsubishi TG-2000 software installed on a central PC computer offers the client ultimate control over the energy consumption per zone, keep an eye on running costs and provide alerts for any faults that may occur on the whole system. With energy efficiency being critical to the project and for every degree that the system deviates from the required temperature, energy costs can rise up to 5%, the client now has a sophisticated building management tool that can even be controlled remotely by a smart phone or tablet.

If that wasn’t efficient enough, SCS installed the best 3rd party turbine on the market which provides 24 hour electric to the WR2. Alan of SCS enthusiastically proclaims:

“Although the site is connected to the grid, the turbine generates 10KW of electricity, so this means that, other than the original capital, there are no other costs involved in the whole project.”

Private Sector: Best Innovation - Energy Awards 2015

Expanding on the projects notoriety, Alan states:

“The Isle of Man Government were aware of the project and when we explained the heat pump system was going to be 100% renewable, they recommended we apply for their 2015 Energy Awards. We were both proud and elated that the project won the Best Innovation award for the Private Sector as we were up against tough competition and some excellent projects.”

Speaking of Kooltech’s involvement, Alan goes on to say:

“We’ve worked closely with them for a good 10 years and always recommend them. We really appreciate their support and advice. John Hammond’s commissioning in particular is always spot on.”

CASE STUDY: Microgaming, Isle of Man

Stewart Clague Services collaborate with Kooltech to provide a bespoke Future Proof System

Microgaming house is located within half a mile of the coast in Douglas. There are no opening windows and fresh air is supplied by an existing mechanical supply/extract ventilation rooftop packaged air handling system. The new Mitsubishi Electric VRF system installed replaces a 12 year old system which had reached the end of its useful life suffering several compressor failures and salt air corrosion.

The replacement VRF system had to provide all of the heating and cooling duty for the building in its entirety and allow diversity and flexibility for changes in office partition layouts which occur in such a fast moving and ever evolving e-business industry. Mitsubishi Electric Accredited Installer Stewart Clague Services (SCS) was awarded the contract through 'Mercury' who had requested the full heat recovery option and favoured the idea of concealed fan coil units ducted to each occupied space.

For future resilience it was decided to use Kooltech's pre-valved BC boxes with additional ports specified for future potential systems and the outdoor units were sized with an additional 10% duty to cater for increased future occupancy. The pre-valved BC boxes reduce the impact of downtime when alterations are made as the system can stay 'live' throughout this process.

Control was achieved with the simple to use of AG150 touch screen controllers which were fed information from individual fan coil thermisters mounted at head height in all occupied areas. This has since been linked through Microgaming's network PC based system so they have off site control. In addition, individual control to the various managers offices was made available through individual brushed steel hotel style wall controllers.

The work was carried out in night shifts to minimise disruption to the office environment and was carried out on time and within budget.

Kooltech's Regional Technical Manager - Alan Clarke firstly visited the Isle of Man to collaborate with Stewart Clague Services to ensure Microgaming received the optimum and future proof system they required. Kooltech's last visits where by Simon Sparks whom commissioned the system to honour the 5 year Mitsubishi Electric warranty.

B-DACS select Mitsubishi Electric UK Air-Conditioning products and KCON Bespoke Solutions package from Kooltech to give the client complete flexibility.

B-DACS is a family run Air Conditioning Contractor based in Glasgow. They are focused on enhancing its customers' living and working environments, while making positive steps to reducing their carbon footprints. B-DACS is dedicated to providing a bespoke service to its clients and are proud to be a Mitsubishi Electric Business Solutions Partner and recently accredited Investors in Young People.

B-DACS recently completed the installation of a new air conditioning system for Wheatley Group at their Lipton House offices. Lipton House is a 24 hour call centre, employing 144 people, providing uninterrupted customer services to 70,000 tenants. The existing air conditioning system at Lipton House was very inefficient and this was particularly noticeable during the summer months. At times, it caused working conditions to become uncomfortable.

The new air conditioning system was required to provide heating and cooling throughout the reception area and the L-shaped first floor. The main priority was to maintain a comfortable temperature within the call centre for the staff. It was important that the system was economical and efficient, could be centrally controlled and performed well as staffing levels changed.

B-DACS selected Mitsubishi Electric UK Air Conditioning products because of their high levels of quality, reliability and the systems ease of use for the end user. Kooltech provided this equipment along with a package of KCON bespoke solutions. KS8 BC controllers with isolation valves were used on the project. This offered the client full system flexibility for future alterations and expansion to the building layout, minimising disruption to the Air Conditioning during these works.

KS8 BC controllers offer future flexibility to expand the new Air Conditioning system at Inverclyde Council

When approaching the Inverclyde Council Library project Campbell's had to consider the potential requirement for future expansion of the office space and expansion to the newly proposed Air Conditioning systems serving these areas. The client was keen to minimise any disruption and downtime to the Air Conditioning when and if such an expansion was to go ahead. 

Kooltech assisted with the design of the Mitsubishi VRF system incorporating KCON bespoke products that would be ideal for any future expansion to the building. KS8 BC controllers with isolation valves where installed, these will minimise downtime of any additional expansion to the VRF system. 95% of any future installation could now be completed prior to shutting down the Air Conditioning system.

Campbell's Air Conditioning was formed in 2001 by Campbell Birnie to provide a specialist Air Conditioning service to the commercial market in Scotland providing design, installation and maintenance. CASE STUDY: Investec Wealth Management, Sheffield

Consultant Shearstone Mechanical use K-CON bespoke products to offer a flexible and tailored solution

Investec required comfort cooling with mechanical ventilation to improve the working environment for their employees. At another office they experienced employees altering settings on remote controls resulting in a 'too hot/too cold' scenario and inefficiencies.

Shearstone Mechanical wanted to offer Investec a system which would offer complete control of their HVAC system.

Kooltech Project Sales Manager Simon Savin presented various technological advances in Mitsubishi Electric Controls and the Kooltech KCON bespoke solutions. Offering a greater degree of future flexibility and overall control of the HVAC system.

BC Box modifications were installed alongside remote temperature sensors and PAR-U02 controllers. PAR-U02 controllers are used to set a 'band' of operation and program set-back temperatures on a schedule timer so the building is comfortable as soon as people walk in. PAR-U02 controllers with PIR and brightness sensors were utilised again with set-back functions allowing greater control of zones resulting in energy efficiencies.

The K-CON Bespoke Solutions allowed Shearstone Mechanical to engage with their client as they could offer a tailored solution to their customer's needs above and beyond standard solutions.

Kooltech supported the project from early design through to commissioning and provided a thorough demonstration of the system and explained the functions and capabilities to the end user and the Facilities Management agent.
